Pilgrim is shit out of luck. His body is covered with magical tattoos he can’t remember getting—in a world where an oppressive clergy controls all enchantments. Or destroys what they can’t. He has no places left to hide and even less memories beyond five years back. Hunted by every clergy knight except one, he’s turned to two things that definitely won’t help. Cheap brandy and berserker rage.
Everything changes when his grifter friend steals a valuable painting, and they meet a young enchanter in way over her head. She links the painting’s ancient origin to Pilgrim’s tattoos—and her fate to his—but it turns out some answers are better left at the bottom of the bottle. For Pilgrim must now fight a clergy that could be the last defense against something far worse than him.
