HERO OR MONSTER. IT DOESN’T MATTER

In September 2026, bad decisions become public record.

The image of a book cover, its upper half black and its bottom half white, split in the middle. The title text reads HEROES & HORSESHIT in big bold lettering. The text “HEROES &” is in red against the black background. The text “HORSESHIT” is upside down and reads backwards, in black letters against the white background. At the top is a smaller subtitle text that reads “With heroes like this, villains need no henchmen.” On the top left is the white silhouette of a man and woman swinging from a chandelier, where the woman is holding on to the feet of the man. In the bottom half is the black silhouettes of a woman knight with a large sword and a brutish man with a large axe. Below them is a black border with the author name, Henrik Refsnes.

Heroes & Horseshit

Pilgrim is shit out of luck. In a world where an oppressive clergy controls—or destroys—all enchantments, his body is covered with magical tattoos he can’t remember getting. Hunted by every clergy knight except one, he has nowhere to hide. With no memory beyond five years, he’s turned to two things that definitely won’t help. Cheap brandy and berserker rage.

Everything changes when his grifter friend steals a valuable painting. A young enchanter, in way over her head, links the painting’s ancient origins to Pilgrim’s tattoos and her fate to his. But some answers are better left at the bottom of the bottle. As history unravels and ride or die friendships are questioned, Pilgrim must fight a clergy that could be the last defense against something far worse than him.

His past.
