To fight in the coming war, King Roland will need to unite the lands, and his squabbling nobles, under one ruler. Legends speak of a banner, flown high by the kings of old, and His Majesty has offered a reward of 200 gold coins to bring it safely to him. The banner was last seen hundreds of years ago, during the battle of Cairn Var, and now lay somewhere within that cursed tomb.
Heed my words, heroes, and do not enter these halls of the dead lightly. If it were not for the Spirit Blade, an artifact forged by dwarves beneath the World’s Edge Mountains, the Lich King sealed within Cairn Var would never have been defeated. The blade has since been lost to time.

NOTES
This quest is an unofficial reimagining of the official quest “Barak Tor: Barrow of the Witch Lord” using the beautiful dungeon mats by Ian Schofield. You can find the digital maps for print on his DriveThruRPG page.
It was created partly as proof of concept, partly for shits and giggles when making Ian’s maps available for use in HeroScribe (with his blessing of course). You can find the the HeroScribe package with all the Beautiful Dungeon Mats on my DriveThruRPG page. Please use it responsibly and take care to only aggravate the heroes on the board and no one else.
The description of the quest itself you can find in your base Hero Quest quest book, I only altered the intro. The writer in me was compelled to change the overarching story a bit, make it coherent, up the stakes, that sort of thing. I’ll make sure to release all the 14 quests in the coming weeks (so please check back). The difficulty will be the same as their official counterpart, although with these larger maps there is plenty of room for additional monsters and traps should you wish to add them.
And while you’re here, stay a while and browse around the site for other content. Remember, there can be no lamentation if you don’t have enough quests to drive the heroes before you. Unless the lamentation is about not playing Hero Quest, which is terrible—and how did I get this far off track…
I need to get back to creating (and posting) more quests.
